Gonna try to get in (and keep some) form for winter

Yeah I know. Good luck with that. But after getting my ass handed to me (I was totally expecting it tho) at last weeks PCR, and the increasing snugness of all my pants, I've decided to get off my lazy butt and get at least a little training in. Of course I started off well by not riding at all over the weekend. But what'evs. I went to the gym today for strength training. I feel huge already. Well... 'cept for my back which got a little tweaked on the ab-machine. I don't think it'll be anything a little ibuprofen wont help. But now to get in some riding too.

Cyclocross Practice Race

So last Thursday I rode the practice race at Eastwood. It was a great day to ride.

The course

Elevation/Speed

Let's just say it was a hard intensity day.

I only hope that I can do all 10 laps this week.

Tom Dugan flys thru trees

Seriously, not only does he jump out of the skatepark over the safety fence, but he does so flying thru the crook of the tree. I'd say it's pretty amazing.

October is Fair Trade month.

I purchase fair trade because I believe that farmers should be able to make a wage that allows them to support themselves and their families. When I purchase fair trade chocolate, I know that I am not supporting companies that use child slave labor.

It's not as expensive as you think. Sams Club sells their own brand of Fair Trade coffee for about $10. which is great for general everyday coffee drinking. Many coffee shops are offering Fair Trade choices on their menus. However, weather you are purchasing bean or brew, don't mistake Rainforest Alliance with Fair Trade. They are not the same.

Weather you like it or not, what you purchase matters.

Cyclocross Practice Races

There is a video embedded in this post that you may not be able to view. Click through to the blog to watch it.
I did one last year. Hope to do more this year. In addition to doing any Almanzo Urban/Micro CX races. Not that I'm in shape or even fast enough to hang for a lap. I just want to get on he bike and throw my heart out thru my lungs. Anyway the RASC message board has information week to week about the practice races at Eastwood. I'm planning to be there tomorrow, getting my ass handed to me on a platter.

Maybe this video will get your CX juices going.

Have a great Hump-Day!

To share or not, bicyclists right to the roads

Follow this link (http://ohiobikelawyer.com/uncategorized/2010/09/share-the-road-stinks/), to a great post about what Share the Road really means vs its interpretation by drivers vs a persons right to travel on the road in any vehicle they choose.
Remember, the cyclist ahead of the motorist has the right of way – which is really a powerful collection of rights. The right to proceed ahead in an uninterrupted manner. The operator with the right of way has rights, as the preferred vehicle, that are GREATER than other vehicles. A “Share The Road” sign may give the motorist behind the cyclist the wrong message that the motorist can choose to share, or not, since the implication is that the bigger car has bigger rights that supercedes the right of the cyclist.
Very interesting article, well worth the read, and please share it with others (via facebook, tweet, blog, phonecall, whatevs).

Very nicely done mini-short. They also have a couple of video web-ads.

  2. Web-ad 2
These come by way of Prolly and Trackosaurus! Excellent find.

And when some dude dropped a spoon Gunnar Soroos killed the whole town. My friend Oprah Winfrey said that she saw Gunnar Soroos totally uppercut some jerkface just because they opened a window. Gunnar Soroos doesn't shop at Costco!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gunnar Soroos has two speeds. Fast, and Kill! The main export of a Gunnar Soroos attack is pain. You can control how people can interact with you and your friends. Choose who can see you, who can speak to you, who can hurt you, and who can be ignored.
