Post tour come down
Last week I went on the local Wednesday group ride. I was looking forward to it all week. Well, I was dreading it all week. Well, to be completely honest, I was both looking forward to it, and dreading it at the same time. I know that my form this year is off, and I haven't been able to consistently train as I would have liked to. So I wanted to see where I was fitness wise. But I was really fearing that I was gonna get dropped like a bag of rocks. Ended up, I spent a little time yo-yo-ing OTB, was dropped hard at one point, but was able to finish with the group.
I thought that was gonna be the motivation to get a bit more consistent, but I ended up riding only one day between then and this morning. And even this morning was a bit brutal for hopping out of bed and getting a ride in. I quickly decided while spinning out of town, that maybe for this week or so, I'll just do easy 20 or so mile spins. Maybe throw in a 30(ish) miler in there, but not really do any intensity. That might be the way to go, and then show up for another Wednesday ride next or the following week to kick off some hard efforts to go into fall.
At least for today that's the plan. It could change tomorrow.

Jens Voigt - The toughest man in the peloton
So Jens crashes, and crashes hard. I think I read that he was knocked unconscious. Here's an image of him laying on the ground.

Should he have waited?
"It's not up to me to decide if it was fair or not, but I wouldn't have raced like that," said a seething Schleck after the finish, having already surrendered his yellow jersey. "My belly is so full of anger right now ... I'm going to want to get my revenge."Holy cow. But in some ways, I agree with the thought that Andy's attack in some way caused the mechanical, so Contador may not have HAD to wait. It's not like some outside circumstance like a puncture or getting caught in a fans musette.
Then again, if you're going for the yellow jersey, don't you want it to be because you are the strongest, and not because of someone else's mechanical?
Either way, it's making an already exciting tour, even more so. Schleck is now forced to be really aggressive. I'm afraid it's gonna be another tour win for Contador.
SportTracks 3.0 free trial vs paid
This time, they will still allow you to try the software for as long as you want, but there are some limitations on it versus the full paid version. Will it be worth it to purchase the software? That's hard to say, but I will say for sure that if you use more then 2 plugins (extra functionality added via 3rd party developers) you will need to upgrade.

How The Race Was Won - 2010 Tour de France, Stage 11
I swear Cosmo must have read my mind with this edition of how the race was won. I wish I could say it better, but I can't. And I totally agree with him.

It's official...
So when I got home from work, I got a package. In it was a new jersey and cycling cap. Awesomeness.

So I now officially represent Toms Shoes when I ride now. And I'm pretty happy I didn't do the group ride. Oh, and it's pouring while the sky is green as I type this.

This is a PG13 video with some risqué inuendos and booty. But it's pretty funny. Yup MC SpandeX from "Performance" (Posted here)

I was pleasantly surprised that Cadel Evans got into the yellow jersey. While he wasn't in my picks for placing in this years tour, I had picked him in the past and am a fan of his. He seemed to finally get a team to support him in the race.
I watched him really suffer on the climb yesterday, and while I knew he wasn't a climber, I figured something must have been wrong.

While Contador and Schleck were battling it out on the Col de la Madeleine, Evans was doing all he could to just stay with a chase group, getting dropped, and struggling.
At the finish, we knew that Andy would be getting the jersey. But while the they were celebrating a great finish, Cadel was fighting to at least gain back a bit of time on the flats. It looked like if he was going to lose it, he was still gonna fight and give it his all. When he finally rolled in 8 minutes later, he was very emotional about losing the jersey, letting the team and the fans down.

I really hope the pain subsides and he can get a stage win and at least finish the tour. It would be a shame if he had to abandon. Fight on Cadel! Fight on!

Removed header image - Stage3 Tour de France 2010 (cobbles)
So yesterday, I was all jacked about the exciting cobbled stage 3 of le Tour de France and Saxo Banks great ride. There are some great (hi-res) pictures posted on the CyclingFans.com website. I grabbed one, cropped it, added a credit line, posted it as a header, then wrote this post, with a link to both CyclingFans.com, and the photographers purchase page for the image. I then emailed the photographer to let him know that I used his image with links to both sites, and if he wanted, I would remove the image at his request. In fact here is what I wrote:
Hi,My thoughts here are that I am not laying claim to/or owning the image. I am providing a link back to both the photographers site and where I initially found the image (where anyone can download an un-watermarked hi-resolution version of it) so that the four or five readers to this blog can view and/or purchase the image, or others in his collection.
I hope it is ok with you that I used your image from cyclingfans.com as a header for my personal blog. If it is a problem I can remove it. You can view it here. http://anello-grande.blogspot.com/ I have provided it with a link to cyclingfans.com and your purchase site. Thank you.
To my surprise, I received this message in my inbox this morning:
You pay 100 euros for each image you have used.I commend the guy for wanting to protect his copyright. That's all good and fine, but I think it's pretty harsh to demand 100 euros (or $126 dollars) for posting it. And then threatening to close my blog. What?!?
If not i start procedure for close your blog
Sent from my BlackBerry® wireless device
Like I said, protect your copyright and deny the use of the image is cool with me. A note saying that it's not cool, could you remove it, would have been enough. Especially since I was giving you notice of what I was doing. I wasn't attempting to steal the image, in fact quite the opposite, I enjoyed the photo so much that I wanted you readers to know who took it.
I wonder, was I wrong in my approach? To be honest, I could have not emailed the guy, used the image for a week or so until I found a new image I liked and replaced it then, without him prolly even knowing. And the threat of closing my blog? What's up with that? I'm not paying the 100 euros, and if he closes the blog, not sweat off my back. I can start another blog. It's not like I have a bunch of readers that count on the blog for daily news. It's just a platform for me to spout my mouth off. Well, if the blog goes down, you know why.

Independence Day
I vaguely remember when I was small and experiencing the freedom that came with the mobility of getting on a bike and riding. Exploring some of the other neighborhoods and just riding around. As I got older, trips took me out of the neighborhoods and into other towns, or out of towns and into countryside.
Some kids first experience this kind of freedom when they get a drivers license. But to me, that was different. Driving to me was that I was (incorrect thinking here) grown-up. To me, to be able to experience the country by using my own effort is more freeing then to just get from point A to point B like we do with the car.
I was able to get out and put in a couple hours in this morning. I could have been longer, but, while I still enjoyed it today, I don't really care to ride in the rain much. But even with the wet, for a couple hours I was free, in a way that I can-not explain.
We celebrate this day, as the birthday of our country. That we live in the United Sates of America. And that we are free. I hope that I really understand what the really means, to be free. I hope you all have a happy and safe Independence Day. And if you get a chance, get out on your bike and experience that type of freedom.
